Route 6 is more than a journey. It is, in and of itself, a destination! On Route 6, you glide through a national forest, climb endless mountains, follow the gentle bends of an impatient river, and retrace historic trails traveled by pioneers. There are architectural marvels, unspoiled natural wonders, Victorian Villages, and the bookmarks of American history.
Monday, October 11
Today we start on our Route 6 journey - and destination in Scranton, PA. This morning we will enjoy a tour of the Lackawanna Coal Mine as we explore 300 feet below the earth in an actual mine. We will then visit Steamtown National Historic Site where the story of steam railroading is told. Enjoy the exhibits, films, and displays and an in-depth look at railroad history. This afternoon we will travel west on Route 6 to Wellsboro where we will check into our hotel and enjoy dinner. D
Tuesday, October 12
This morning after breakfast we will be met by a guide who will point out the highlights around Wellsboro including the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. We will then continue west on Route 6 traveling through “God’s Country” of Potter County onto the unspoiled Allegheny National Forest, including Kinzua Bridge, where a park ranger will show us the highlights. This evening will close with dinner at the hotel. B, D
Wednesday, October 13
Breakfast will be included at the hotel before we depart for Erie. Upon arrival in Erie we will visit the Erie History Center. This afternoon we will enjoy a luncheon cruise on Presque Isle Bay. We will then visit Mazza Vineyards and Arrowhead Wine Center. After checking into the hotel & freshening up we will enjoy dinner at the Concourse at Union Station. B, L, D
Thursday, October 14
This morning after our breakfast at the hotel we will visit the Tom Ridge Center, followed by a tour of Presque Isle State Park. We will have free time at Mill Creek Mall for lunch & shopping. We will arrive in Cambridge Springs by late afternoon. We will enjoy dinner at the Riverside Inn this evening. B, D
Friday, October 15
After breakfast at the Inn we must check out & depart for home. Enroute we will visit the Drake Well Museum in Titusville, PA, the birthplace of the oil industry. Enroute home you can reminisce and share your Route 6 experiences with fellow passengers while viewing the charming Pennsylvania countryside. B
