Monday, October 4
Midwest hospitality and a relaxing riverboat cruise create a unique atmosphere from which to witness the beautiful fall colors along the mighty Mississippi. The colors of Fall begin today as we cross Northern Pennsylvania. Tonight our lodging will be in Elyria, Ohio.
Tuesday, October 5
A morning visit to the Sauder Farm and Craft Village in Archbold, Ohio will be highlighted by a hearty lunch in the Old Barn Restaurant. You can scout around the century-old cabins and shops filled with craftsmen making goods just as their ancestors did. Our next stop is the Studebaker National Museum. Here we will see displays of horse-drawn and motorized vehicles manufactured in South Bend. Tonight’s lodging will be in the Chicago area. B,L
Wednesday, October 6
We will arrive in the Mississippi Riverside city of Moline, Illinois in time for lunch on your own before we visit the John Deere Pavilion, which was created as a celebration of the past, present and future of agribusiness. The Pavilion is recognized as the world’s most comprehensive agricultural exhibit. We will then visit the Mississippi River Visitor’s Center located on Rock Island. The Center provides spectacular views to watch boats pass through the lock. Our lodging this evening will be in LeClaire, Iowa. CB
Thursday, October 7
Fast, elegant, and quiet as she slips through the water, the TWILIGHT is the most richly appointed riverboat to be launched in a hundred years. Victorian steamboat architecture inside and out pleases the eye. There are three decks with comfortable dining salons, and sundecks and lounge chairs for those who wish to snooze in the sun. After boarding the boat, there is a continental breakfast. The TWILIGHT takes pride in maintaining the river’s grand tradition of good and bountiful food. Lunch and dinner will be served aboard. There is morning and afternoon snacks and complimentary coffee and iced tea are always available. Colorful buses will be waiting at the boat landing to take us to Grand Harbor Resort in Dubuque. Friday, October 8
In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, you can visit the Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, the Old Jail or Diamond Jo Casino. After a good morning in Dubuque, we board the TWILIGHT for the trip down river. As before there is plenty to eat, historic comments by the captain, free bingo and live music. After dinner we will disembark and return to LeClaire, Iowa for our night’s lodging. B,L,D
Saturday, October 9
This morning we begin our journey home by way of Indianapolis, Indiana where we will enjoy some afternoon touring of this great city, before checking into this evenings lodging. CB
Sunday, October 10
Before we depart Indianapolis, we’ll enjoy a visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Then we continue east, for our overnight near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dinner this evening is included at a nearby restaurant. CB,D
Monday, October 11
This morning we’ll enjoy a guided tour of some of Pittsburgh’s highlights. After our tour, we will continue homeward enjoying even more of the beautiful Pennsylvania countryside. B
